Temple!

I think this is Kiyomizu temple. I'm pretty sure. The stairway looks a little different than what I remember...but where else could it be?

So...um...Kiyomizu temple in Kyoto, taken last year.

Asakusa

Asakusa, Tokyo.

...the text on the banner is reversed. It must have blown around in the wind - or else I just took a picture of the back side of it.

Trailside Temple

Taken by the side of a hiking trail on Koya-san last year.

Temples

Looking at some of my older pictures, I realized that my blog is rather lacking in shrine and temple pictures. So here's one:

This was taken quite a while ago at a temple on Mt. Koya in Wakayama prefecture (an hour or two north--and slightly east--of here).

(Officially) 100

According to Blogger, this is my 100th post! In celebration, I have a picture of something very special to post today:

This is Very Important Moss (like VIP).

It says so right on the sign!

This was taken at Kinkaku-ji in Kyoto, and (despite the lack of grand architecture or imposing views) it's one of my favorite temple pictures. Kinkaku-ji has beautiful gardens, and the moss covering the ground of the gardens is actually very important to the overall effect. This is part of a display showcasing the different varieties of moss used in various garden areas.

100 Pictures!

According to my photo file, this is picture number 100! In honor of my expansion into three digit territory, I dug through my old pictures and found one of my favorites.

This picture of Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto was taken last summer. Kiyomizu-dera is one of the most famous temples in all of Japan. You can see part of the city of Kyoto in the background.

Bonus: click on the picture for an extra-large, desktop-background-sized image!

*I should note that my post number is only at 86, but I've put up pictures for more than one day in several posts, so the actual picture count is at 100. (That number doesn't count bonus photos or close-ups that I've posted.)
Maybe I'll do something fun for my 100th post, too.

San-jyuu-san Gendou (again)

This is the long side. You can only see about halfway down its length...

Yep. Longest wooden building in the world.

San-jyuu-san Gendou

See? Another temple!

This is San-jyuu-san Gendou in Kyoto. It just happens to be the longest wooden building in the world (...this is the short side).

Temples and flowers...

It's spring in Japan. I'll probably be posting a lot of temples and flowers. (I'll try to add some variety every once in a while)

This was taken during the light-up at Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto last week.

Toji Temple

This is the place where the flea market was held last Wednesday...it looks a lot different without all the people and stalls full of stuff.

It also has a five-tiered pagoda. (The bottom tier is kind of hidden by the trees.) There apparently aren't very many of those in Japan.

Getting into Kiyomizu Temple...

It was crowded.
There was a line.

A very long line.

Kiyomizu Temple

Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto, at night.

...the blue streak in the air is either a spotlight, or the temple's holy aura. (We were thinking spotlight at the time)

Kyoto

Wandered around Kyoto after the flea market yesterday...they had a big light-up event.

This was taken just before sunset.

Flea Market

I went to Kyoto today! There's a flea market held at Toji temple there on the 21st of each month. I went and bought a little Chinese-style shelf, a tea set, and a kimono. (For cheap!)

I also walked a lot today. Sooooooo tired......
